People across borders: migrant stock, net migration, refugees and remittances
Who lives outside the country they were born in, which way the net flow runs, who is displaced, and how much money goes home. The stock series is a UN Population Division estimate carried by the World Bank; the remittance series is balance of payments.

Definitions and method
Migrant stock is a mid-year estimate interpolated between census rounds and is not an annual measurement; net migration is a five-year residual from population accounting. Neither is a count of movements, and the difference matters for any question about flow rather than presence.
