IMF International Trade in Goods

bilateral licence unverified

International Monetary Fund · PROVIDER-TERMS-RESTRICTED · terms · checked 2026-09-06

Merchandise trade by partner country — 985,263 observations

The bilateral layer this platform was missing. Counterparts are ISO-3 codes, so they join straight onto the areas already here, and 231 of them per reporter is a real network rather than a star. It is loaded under PROVIDER-TERMS-RESTRICTED for one reason only - the IMF copyright page refuses automated fetches, so the terms could not be read and are not assumed. That gates it to non-commercial use until a human opens that page in a browser, which is the conservative direction to be wrong in and takes about a minute to fix.

Food and Agriculture Organization · CC-BY-4.0 · terms · checked 2026-09-04

Fertilizer trade: who ships the potash, and to whom · Fertilizer use: where the potash and phosphate actually go — 977,727 observations

Was a keyless API and is not any longer. Worth revisiting: FAO data is CC BY 4.0 in principle, and agriculture is the missing commodity layer beside the USGS minerals tables.

The API returns 401 without credentials; the bulk endpoint at bulks-faostat.fao.org does not, and serves the same tables as zipped CSV. The blocker was the route, not the source. Licence machine-read rather than attested: FAO states its corporate statistical databases are under CC BY 4.0 on a page an automated client can fetch.

EU trade, national accounts and NUTS-level regional statistics, JSON-stat API, no key required.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees · terms · checked 2026-09-07

Forced displacement: refugees and asylum-seekers by origin and destination — 181,280 observations

This is the series the World Bank archived, and UNHCR's version is better than the one that was lost: it carries origin and asylum together, so displacement can be read as a flow between two places rather than as two separate one-sided counts. The connector is written and the data loads. It stays unpublished for the same reason ILO and OECD do - the terms page cannot be read by an automated client, so the licence has not been verified, and this platform does not serve data on an assumption about its terms. One person opening that page in a browser resolves it.

API is public, keyless and bilateral (origin x asylum), 1951 onwards. Loaded and published under UN-AGENCY-NC on the Scientific Director's attestation; the terms page itself returns 403 to automated requests, so the licence was attested rather than machine-read.

International Monetary Fund · checked 2026-09-04

Direct investment positions: who owns what, and where it came from — 179,802 observations

Stocks are the gap in this catalogue. Everything loaded so far is a flow or a level; exposure questions need positions - who holds claims on whom. These fit the observation table as it stands, with the partner dimension the Eurostat trade tables have now proven works. Highest value per unit of work of anything in this register.

SDMX, keyless, XML only. Bilateral: reporter x counterpart. Publishes mirror statistics -- every pair can appear twice, as reported and as derived from the counterpart -- so only the reporter's own figure is stored. Declares SCALE=6 that must not be applied; the values are already in dollars.

Bank for International Settlements · BIS-TERMS · terms · checked 2026-09-05

Central bank policy rates — 14,450 observations

The central banks' bank. Publishes policy rates, exchange rates, credit aggregates and international banking statistics over a keyless SDMX API - the reference source for cross-border financial exposure.

SDMX-JSON 1.x; rejects format=jsondata, wants sdmx-json

ILOSTAT

time series

International Labour Organization · terms · checked 2026-09-04

Labour markets: participation, employment and informality — 10,188 observations

The API works keyless and the generic SDMX connector should reach it without new code. Not loaded for one reason only: the terms-of-use page returned 403 to an automated fetch, so the licence could not be verified, and this platform does not publish data on an assumption about its terms. A human opening that page in a browser would probably resolve this in a minute.

SDMX-JSON, keyless, and the generic SDMX connector reads it without new code. 1,213 dataflows; the headline modelled-estimate series are the useful ones. Loaded under the attested non-commercial licence.

International Monetary Fund · terms · checked 2026-09-07

Commodity prices: what copper, potash and the rest are worth — 5,614 observations

Loaded under the same conservative holding licence as the other IMF datasets here. The prices are world benchmarks carrying COUNTRY=G001, a global aggregate, so they are filed against a world area and never against a country, where a benchmark would read as something that country reported.

SDMX, keyless. Served as StructureSpecific XML only: the API ignores an Accept header asking for JSON, so it needs its own small parser rather than the generic SDMX connector.

United States Geological Survey · USGS-PUBLIC-DOMAIN · terms · checked 2026-09-05

Critical mineral production: world mine and refinery output by country · Critical mineral reserves: where the remaining deposits are — 2,571 observations

World mine production, plant capacity and reserves for around 90 mineral commodities, published annually as a data release. The reference source for critical-mineral supply concentration.

ScienceBase data release, zipped CSV, annual

Natural Earth

geometry

Natural Earth (North American Cartographic Information Society) · NATURAL-EARTH-PD · terms · checked 2026-09-05

Loaded, but not as observations - this is geometry, and it is the first geometry the platform holds. The 1:110m admin-0 boundaries are reduced to outer rings, rounded to two decimal places (about a kilometre, far finer than a world map needs) and stripped of every property except the ISO-3 code, which takes the file from 839 KB to 144 KB. Antarctica and the French Southern Territories are dropped: they carry no economic data and between them took a sixth of the canvas. The join to this database is on area.iso3, so a chokepoint or a NUTS-3 region simply does not appear on a world map, which is correct.

1:110m admin-0 boundaries, simplified and served as a static asset

Assessments are dated because terms change. If one is out of date or wrong, that is worth knowing — corrections welcome.
