How the platform is put together, so you can judge whether a number is fit for your purpose.
How data gets here
- A connector fetches a slice from a provider API on a schedule (every 24 hours for most sources).
- Rows are normalised to one shape: indicator, geography, optional partner geography, period, value, unit, status flag.
- The payload is checksummed. If nothing changed upstream, no new version is written — only the "checked at" time moves.
- If it did change, a new vintage is opened and the observations are upserted against it, so revisions are visible instead of silently overwriting history.
- Every run is logged with its status, row count and duration. The log is public through the freshness endpoint.
If you open a page whose data is past its refresh window, the cached rows are served immediately and a refresh runs behind your request. Past a hard staleness limit, the request waits for fresh data instead.
